I am a 2nd-year UNISA student (Bachelors of Education). I started working as an Intern at a school in Durban. I had a bursary for my 1st year of studies and got 6 out of 10 distinctions. I, unfortunately didn’t get the bursary the 2nd year, I had to leave my Internship and started working in an office to pay my studies. I still couldn’t afford my studies as I had to start with debt to get me from A to B (car and other important debt in life). I decided to tutor after 8 hours of work for another 2 hours – by that time I just couldn’t think straight anymore and my studies weren’t a priority even though my goal is to finish my degree. With a lot of ups and downs in my life, a wonderful opportunity arose and I was offered a job at the very same school where I used to Intern. I am now the Afrikaans Teacher for the Grade 3 classes.
Unfortunately, my contract ends in December 2017 and so far I have had no luck in finding a well-paid teaching job as I’m not qualified as yet. I am not keen to work in an office again because I feel it blocks my vision. I decided to start my own tutoring business, but I also need to follow the “CAPS” system from the Department of Education. The Department of Education created lovely books for teachers and students, which I would like to buy. It is difficult to put money aside when you have a car to pay, rent to pay and for my studies.
As soon as I am part of the community, I would LOVE to go to other communities and help children with their homework who cannot afford private tuition.
I really want to help students reach their full potential. Any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
