We are hosting a Golf Day on 17 February 2018, in Greytown, Kwa Zulu Natal, in memory of our son, Jaco Botha. Jaco passed away on 18 April 2015 in a motor car accident at the age of 23.This tragic event encouraged us, his parents, to honour his life in a manner that would raise funds for various worthy causes.
Jaco was a keen golfer and in 2006, 2007 and 2008, he represented the North West Province in the Junior Golf Foundation Tournaments. He was a soft-hearted, caring young man. This annual event honours Jaco’s memory as golf was something close to his heart.
This is the 3rd annual Golf Day. In 2016, Greytown Child & Youth Care Centre was the first beneficiary and we donated R35 000 towards the Centre. The Centre used the money towards a water tank project and they are now independent of the erratic municipal water supply. In 2017 the Kammaland Primary School was the second beneficiary and we donated R22 500 towards the school to help with funds to build new classrooms.
This year, we have chosen Arcadia Home for the Aged in Greytown as the 3rd beneficiary of this event. (www.arcadia-home.co.za). Thank you in advance for making it possible to meaningfully contribute to enriching the lives of the people at Arcadia Home for the Aged.
Arcadia Home for the Aged was established in 1983 in response to a need in the community for a safe home for their parents and relatives. It was established by local people and is strongly supported by local Greytown citizens. The management board is comprised of locals and most of the staff are locals. Our home, situated in a residential area, accommodates 46 residents, who are treated with much love and compassion by very dedicated and caring staff. Qualified nursing sisters are on daily duty ensuring that the health of residents is continuously monitored creating a warm and homely atmosphere where residents can spend the rest of their lives.
We strive to ensure that they are treated with dignity, love, and compassion and encourage their family to visit anytime as there are no restricted visiting hours. The home is secure and monitored by a local security company. Night staff ensures that any health problems are rapidly attended to and the home is next door to a local doctor. With the exception of the frail care unit, each resident is accommodated in a private room fitted with its own basin, side-table, desk and two chairs.
All meals are prepared on the premises in our well-equipped kitchen. There are a hairdressing salon and library and daily activities are arranged for those who want a change of scenery.
Donations of any amount are received with gratitude – every Rand makes a difference and will be put to good use to ensure older people get the care they need. With your help, we hope to be a caring Home for the elderly for another 34 years!
Thank you very much.
