My husband and I are urgently looking for a way to relocate our dog from South Africa to Italy.
Her name is Athena and she’s a 6-year-old spayed Toy Pomeranian. We got married in March of 2017, and had all her vaccinations and paperwork ready to fly in April, only to discover the day before that we couldn’t book her in privately, and had to go through a private pet travel agency, this after we spoke to numerous sources and did tons of research on the internet.
Thus, she missed her flight. In order to get her here, we had to hire a company who would manage everything and buy a new plane ticket, this would cost us a minimum of R9000 if all her vaccinations and export permits were still valid. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an extra R9000 lying around at the time and had to postpone her travel until we could find the funds. It has now been nearly 1 year of her staying in the foster care of my mother.
We have since also fallen pregnant and have to prepare for our first daughter’s arrival. It seems Athena is searching for us as she regularly escapes from the house and ends up in the local
animal shelter, PAWS. I now receive regular messages informing me of her ventures and this is putting a strain on my emotional well-being as I feel helpless.
I feel like a failure as I can’t seem to find a way for Athena to be reunited with her family, every effort I make ends up backfiring. My mother also has 2 other Pit-bulls and a German Sheppard so she needs to be fenced off alone for the fear that the group might turn against her since she is quite feisty. I dread to think that one day I might receive a call to notify me of Athena’s passing, or that she got out and this time couldn’t be found.
The cheapest quote we received for her travels now, was R14 000. If there is any way we could raise the additional funds in order to hire a private pet travel company, it would mean the world to us.
