Mohloling oa Thuto le Lipalo Upward Bound Academy (MTLUBA) seeks to improve school-leaving mathematics and physical science results for underprivileged learners. It will help students from poor socioeconomic households pass school-leaving examinations and enter higher education and graduate programmes at no cost to their parents. MTLUBA is a fully registered Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Lesotho. It will intervene by offering (a) Mathematics and Physical Sciences remedial classes and preparing students for their examinations, (b) Social Life Skills and Personal Development, and (c) Career Counselling and Guidance, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Library usage and Information Literacy. The words in Mohloling oa Thuto le Lipalo Upward Bound Academy translates as: ‘The Source of Science and Mathematics knowledge.’ The word ‘Science’ derives from the Latin word, ‘scientia’, which is ‘knowledge’. So, MTLUBA goes beyond helping students pass Mathematics and Physical Science at the school-leaving examinations. It develops our students to become success-oriented through knowledge. Therefore, MTLUBA empowers students to succeed in life.MTLUBA uses a tried and tested mathematics and physical science teaching system, Ligbron e-Learning System. MTLUBA is a contact school. We will bring students directly into contact with their tutors. Therefore, all the teaching will take place at the resident site. However, students will have material that they will cover when they are away at their respective schools. This work will be such that it will not interfere with students’ schoolwork.
