After many years of misfortune, medical issues and financial hardships, as most of you are aware, Last week Dave and Marie were involved in a tragic motorcar accident in Stanger Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. Dave fought a week-long battle with severe chest and internal injuries but sadly passed away 27/11/2018. Marie, although badly bruised and shaken up, is OK. Dave and Marie were travelling home after Marie had just had a brain scan for a suspected stroke!
The results will be known around the 10th Dec, Marie has had circulation and heart issues for a few years now, and has been receiving treatment and have not been very well at all. Dave’s passing leaves Marie in a serious predicament. Dave was the sole breadwinner, and they literally lived from hand to mouth with assistance from Family in Australia and the Society of St Vincent De Paul in Ballito. Dave worked when he could, and now that income will cease.
They own no property or assets of any value. Unfortunately, a lack of disposable income resulted in no life insurances being in place, and of course, it is so sad that there are practically no social benefits available in South Africa. The issues Marie faces with no foreseeable income.
• They are currently renting a small cottage on a farm for R5000.00pm, approx. $400 USD
• Living Expenses are estimated to be approx. R8000.00pm (approx. US$600) without any
luxuries (I think it is more than that or should be more than that).
• They both relied on South African Health Services with No private medical.
• Dave received an SA pension, which unfortunately will now cease, as Marie is not at a
pensionable age. Not that this was a liveable amount by any means.
• Their car was more than 20 years old and dilapidated. Now it is a complete write-off.
We are sure that with the assistance and generosity of all who knew Dave and Marie, we can make a difference in Marie’s life.
Your contributions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance for your support.
