Our beloved son, Nathaniel Hendricks was killed in gang cross-fire at the age of 14 years.
Nathaniel was on his way to a local community tuck shop in Mitchells Plain when he was shot and lost his life on the 5 May 2018 on route to hospital.
The perpetrators have yet to be sentenced, almost a year later…
Nathaniel was intelligent and inquisitive and had a knack for figuring out how to fix just about anything. Nathaniel was a brilliant dancer, he loved to play soccer and brought joy and love to the lives of everyone he connected with.
Even in his death, Nathanial touched the lives of 5 other people. We were given the choice to donate Nathaniel’s organs to which we agreed. In his death, Nathaniel saved 5 other lives: Two children received half of his liver each, another child received his heart and two students received his kidneys.
We were not able to afford to give Nathaniel a proper burial and so he is buried in public grave at Klips Cemetery in Grassy Park. It breaks our hearts to know that another person may be buried above Nathaniel and this is why we are raising funds to give him a burial that he deserved and we hope to do this on the anniversary of his death.
We are creating this Fund, not only to provide our son with a dignified burial, but also to make people aware of the struggle of children living surrounded by gang violence.
