ARE YOU OK? MENTAL HEALTH AWAR – $100 000
This is a personal fundraising attempt with two intentions: To raise awareness and help myself. Mental health problems are invisible to the eye, and so often go unnoticed, until it’s too late. A lot of people with mental health issues, tend to isolate and keep their problems to themselves, which perpetuates the problem.
With these shirts, I am aiming to open up the conversations so we can check in on each other, break the silence, break the barriers to compassion, dissolve the stigma that people with mental health issues are a ‘problem’.
A simple check-in can make all the difference to someone who is suffering in silence. On a personal note: I have been on my own healing journey to heal PTSD, depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies along with an eating disorder. Part of the disease is working with a low self esteem and low self-worth, which led me to accept jobs with low pay grades, because I was under the impression that these jobs would be easier to manage, mentally and emotionally.
This has lead to me accumulating a lot debt and I am finding it challenging to evolve into the next phase of my healing and health because of this debt. I am not alone. There are many people who are suffering, mostly in silence and isolation, and I am hoping that this creates a double action, to raise awareness around mental health issues that are going unnoticed, as well as raise the funds to pay off my debt and seek good mental health care for myself.
If this goes well, I promise to use the excess funds to help others in need of mental health care, and cannot afford it.
