ATHLETE FUND RAISING – GOAL R25 000
My name is Phumzane, I am a male athlete living in Manguzi (deep rural KZN). I am currently unemployed, living in a community with little economic opportunity.
I found the sport of running in 2012 when my life was difficult, and I was pushed to the edge physically and emotionally. Running literally saved my life, it has given me a spirit of hope, a sense of freedom, it has strengthened my faith in God and has given me good health. It has shown me that money and possessions are not important in life.
I have been competing in marathon events across the country since 2013, and even under economic hardship, I am striving to improve.
The main challenge I experience is financing my entry fees, transport and sports clothing in order to train and compete. I have tried asking publicly for money which can be humiliating and difficult, and I have approached the local municipality, yet I do not receive assistance.
I wish to compete in the following events in 2018: PMB marathon, Zululand ultra-marathon, two oceans marathon, Durban city marathon, Comrades marathon, Mandela marathon, Sanlam Cape Town city marathon, and Soweto marathon.
The cost breakdown for the entire year is as follows:
Transport (incl. Taxi, flights): R6 580
Entry fees: R1 760
Clothing/shoes/gear: R9 020
Accommodation: R7 600
I appreciate your support and may God bless you.
