DONATIONS FOR OUR DAUGHTERS COCHLEAR IMPLANT – GOAL R20 000

R0 of R20 000 raised

Tara-Lee had an incredibly tough start to life. She was born 3 months prematurely to a drug-addicted mother who was 16 years old at the time. Tara-Lee was abandoned and left at a hospital with six life-threatening diseases. At 3 months old, she was released to the Elonwabeni Child and Family Centre, an orphanage, where Ricardo and his wife volunteer.

Little Tara-Lee was too ill to live amongst the other children, so the social worker called Ricardo and his wife, Cindy, in for a meeting and asked them if they could help. Tara-Lee came to live with them at 3.5 months old and they have never looked back. Ricardo and Cindy are currently fostering Tara-Lee, pending an adoption, which is in progress.

At 6 months of age, while in aftercare, it was observed that Tara-Lee had issues with her hearing. On 22 August 2017, she had a Grommet Operation and on 29 September 2017, following a Chloral ABR test, it was discovered that she cannot hear due to the fact that the nerve linking to her brain does not function or carry messages accurately. We then took her to CAREL Du Toit center for the deaf who then did further test and confirmed that Tara is deaf and needed Hearing Aids, when the Hearing Aids was tested on Tara it was discovered that the Aids just helps her to hear sounds, but does not send a direct indication to the brain to state what words are being spoken.

Tara then fell into the category of being a contender for a Cochlear implant, this, however, is a very expensive operation, hence the reason for us requesting any type of donation to achieve our little warrior’s goal.

Yours in appreciation and Thanks
