FEES FOR HOPE – GOAL R34 000
My name is Nireshnie. I am a BCOM Accounting sciences student. I was awarded the Golden Key Honours membership reserved for the top 15% of academic merit.
I started my accounting journey at Damelin in 2014 the fees for the year amounted to R20 000, my mother took a loan from her workplace. She is still paying the interest on the loan. I had to de-register from Damelin because they were not accredited at the time. I then went to Durban University of Technology and managed to get an academic merit remission. I then went on to do my advanced diploma at UNISA and took out a student loan to fund my studies. The interest is astronomical, and I have been paying this loan from 2018 till date, I pay half my stipend for the loan.
I want to attempt my Postgraduate diploma in Accounting Sciences this year unfortunately I still have historical student debt loans and was declined for a new loan. Bursaries for Postgrad are very hard to come by as well. I have applied through every possible avenue but have not had any luck so far.
My mother had an accident at work and was injured on duty. This was disregarded as the investigation stated that it was due to an underlying condition. She has been helping me previously to pay off some of my debt whilst still paying off the loan interest from 2014. I am currently an intern and have to support her and my grandmother. She is unable to fulfill her job function due to her condition, that being able to walk freely. She works in a local supermarket, and she has to walk around the shop. I am unable to afford my study fees for the year and I don’t want to give up on my dream.
I’ve been working extremely hard to get merit bursaries but yet again, funding is a hurdle. Obtaining this funding would be a huge help and relief. I have been trying to complete my studies for the last 7 years and had to stop numerous times because of funds. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.
