KIDNEY TRANSPLANT MEDICAL BILLS – GOAL R60 000
Hi, I was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure in 2011, then I started doing dialysis. Lost medical aid cover due to being medically boarded. I approached the State Hospital at Tygerberg when my condition changed to critical, literary a matter of life and death, but was turned down treatment since their budget didn’t allow for additional patients. I then applied for medical Aid, for which I had a year waiting period on a cover for illness. My wife luckily obtained a temporary position and with her income, we could contribute cash for certain treatments, but not in full. Once Medical Aid cover started, we started with tests for a transplant with my wife being the donor, which ended being a match.
The Medical Aid after a year approved and authorised the transplant, which occurred on 10/10/2017. Before the transplant in our consultations with the Doctors, we were brought under the impression that Medical Aid will pay all since they charge PMB (Prescribed Minimum Benefits) rates. Well, imagine my surprise and shock when their claims were being processed and Medical Aid was paying much less. With the disability pension that I receive, it’s almost impossible for us to meet these demands.
We urgently need financial help.
