TEACHING WOMEN TO SEW – GOAL R40 000
I’m trying to start a small business by teaching underprivileged ladies in my community to sew African ethnic beaded shopping bags to sell online. I am a seamstress all my life and I’d like to pass my skill on to these ladies .
I have seen what poverty and unemployment does and I want to do what I can to help. I want funds to buy a few sewing machines and enough stock to keep us working for three months. I would also pike each lady to take home a small stipend until we start seeing a return… something for the basic essentials.
I would like to help empower 4 to 5 ladies and teach them not only to sew bags but many other items that sell well online like coasters, make-up bags, zip purses, table mats, oven gloves and many more. I will also teach them how to use a laptop to run the sales on the different sites. We will also need to buy a laptop.
I have managed to make 20 bags already out of my bits of sewing money. The long term goal for this project is to sell online to international markets. I have seen the prices of these items listed online in dollars and pounds and I urge u to take a look as well. I have factored in the shipping costs and still believe it will be a sustainable income for these ladies.
Premises are available through the chief. The machine I am using at the moment is sluggish to say the least. I spend more time fixing it than sewing. Productivity would increase a hundred fold if we had new machines and other equipment.
