Four years ago, Elizabeth Rose Fereira (Lizzy) was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. A disease she inherited from her mother Melissa. Melissa gave birth to Jamie Lee (8years old) Lizzy’s older sister, luckily Jamie is healthy.
Since birth my grandmother Olga Jean Murphy raised and cared for both girls. My grandmother is their sole provider. My dad, his brothers and sister help where they can, but it just gets too much.
My gran is 81 years old and I do believe that she needs all the help she can get. I have never met
anyone quite like her. She lost her husband, son, brothers and sisters and still she is caring for these girls. Lizzy needs 24hour care.
My grandmother truly is a remarkable woman.
