The South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASA-II) is a member of SASCOC, an associated member of SSA and is also affiliated with the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organization (DSISO).
An appeal is hereby made for financial assistance to the SASA-II National Swimming Team to represent South Africa at the 9th DSISO World Swimming Championship from 19th to 27th July 2018 in TRURO, CANADA.
The Team was selected during the SASA-II National Age Group Games in Pretoria during March 2018 and consists of 4 female and 5 male swimmers. Swimmers selected had to achieve World Qualifying times and be possible finalists and/or medal contenders. The team will depart on the 17th July and return on 28th July 2018.
SASA-II’s application for national funding from LOTTO has been unsuccessful and the tour is now a self-funded event. SASCOC has approved the Team’s participation and the awarding of National Colors.
These athletes represent the elite swimmers with Down syndrome in our country and they are all ranked in the top 3 rankings on the SASA-II ranking List. All the swimmers are registered with the SSA, are listed on the DSISO World MASTER LIST (International classification.) They are medal prospects as part of the National Relay Teams as well as in some of the individual events.
The total cost for each Team member is R 42 750. It includes flight tickets, accommodation, all meals, registration and clothing.
Your kind consideration towards the funding (or partial funding) of a team member or members would make a dream come true for a person with Down syndrome. They will truly appreciate any sponsor and or donation.
