CURRENT STATUS:
I was diagnosed in 2011 with stage 4 breast cancer, with Mets into my spine and thigh.
I was put on hormone therapy, which has been amazingly successful in controlling and reducing it. However, in January this year, I found myself in intense pain and on the 14th January I ended up in the emergency room.
An MRI with colour contrast was done, which showed that the cancer had spread into the spinal lining. This is what was causing the nerve pressure and making my leg collapse with pain.
A course of radiation was done to aid in alleviating the pressure of the tumours on my spinal cord. However, when discharged the doctors said there was no more medical treatment, and I have been put on palliative care.
LOOKING FORWARD:
There are a number of things that we believe can be done to aid in my healing.
The first and most important thing is to lift my spirits, faith and mindset – as so often in the battle against cancer, it’s the mind and heart that are so critical to healing.
HOW CAN WE DO THIS?
I will be attending the Autumn session Healing School by Reverent Dr Chris Oyakhilome in Johannesburg this month (March 15th – April 1st) for 3 weeks.
A second key aspect of this next chapter is getting our home ready. Currently, I need assistance with movements which include me needing to use a walker and wheelchair, as well as needing wall bars installed to pull myself up on and relevant ramps for wheelchair access.
Thirdly, we have found an alternative medical treatment centre based in the USA, which has incredible results for those who have been deemed terminal. This is an option we would really like to consider, however, the costs are too high for us to afford in our personal capacity. RE travelling and treatments.
And lastly, with situations like this there are always curve ball costs that can often barrel us over, and having that extra cushion of financial support is critical to soften the blow.
The faith, love and good wishes of spiritual family and friends are heartwarming beyond words. And any assistance on a purely practical and/or financial level would be deeply appreciated.
