The annual Trek4Mandela Kilimanjaro Challenge is an initiative that aims to raise enough funds to ensure that 500 000 South African schoolgirls will not miss a day of school as a result of menstrual challenges. The initiative also aims to drive home awareness of the Caring4Girls Program to ensure accessibility to much needed sanitary products – a necessity and a right, not a luxury – together with hygiene education to ensure the growth and development of young South African schoolgirls into women with dignity.
As an African woman, who fully understands the plight that so many South African schoolgirls go through, I have decided to undertake the challenge in July 2018. Over and above this, I have chosen to join this 2018 challenger to celebrate Dr. Nelson Mandela 100th birthday – South Africa’s first black president – by summiting Kilimanjaro.
In order to make this vision a reality, each climber needs to raise funds which go towards supporting hundreds of disadvantaged school girls and the costs of the climb.
