My name is Mduduzi Thabede, and I am a 21- year- old African gentleman. I believe that becoming a doctor has always been in my destiny, but I need all the help I can get from you. I was raised in a rural African village, devoid of day to day amenities, that I believe most people would take for granted.
Despite all odds, with fierce dedication and hard work, I graduated from high school with distinction and was offered a place to study Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery in one of the best Universities in Africa – The University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
I am currently in my third year of this incredible six-year-long program. Since my enrollment, I continuously strive for the best and persevere simply, because I understand that nothing worth having comes easy.
However, late 2017 during the examination period- disaster struck. It came to my attention that my alcoholic, abusive father had become devastatingly violent, and my mother’s life was endangered. Given the weight and urgency of this life-threatening situation my mother found herself in, I, as the eldest son of the African family had no choice but to return home and protect my mother until the authorities step in.
This period of unavoidable absence resulted in me missing the end of the year examination, consequently the loss of the bursary and thus accumulation of debt in my student account. The Witwatersrand University Fees Office has given me two months to clear my account.
I fear that without your help I will be financially excluded and a heart- wrenching end of my dream. These are the reasons why I started this GoFundmeSa campaign, in the hope that you will assist me in raising the funds to cover my tuition. I’ve worked immensely hard to be where I am and am willing to work equally as hard in the future so that I am able to take all the skills I’ve learnt back to the poor African communities.
If you are in any way able to help, I will be exceedingly grateful.
Thank you so much for all your contributions, and for the effort needed to facilitate my request.
I will also appreciate if you can help spread my story.
