Mhlengi Gwala is a Durban Based Triathlete who was out for a training ride during the early hours of the morning of the 6th of March 2018.

3 Men ambushed him and dragged him into the bushes on the side of the road.

Mhlengi offered them his personal belongings, his bicycle and even money, but they were not interested.

They held him down and attempted to saw both his legs off with a blunt, rusted chainsaw. They caused severe damage to his lower right leg and started on the left leg, where after they stopped abruptly and ran away.

Mhlengi then proceeded to crawl to the main road and managed to flag down a vehicle who took him to a nearby hospital.

Mhlengi has been operated on, and we are still awaiting a prognosis on the success of the operation.

There is a long road of not only physical recovery, but also psychological recovery ahead for Mhlengi and he will need all the help he can get.

He is a provider in his family and this ordeal will make it impossible for him to work and earn a salary for an extended period of time.

We ask you to please open your hearts for this man, to help him move past this horrific nightmare he has to endure.

Thanking you in advance for your support.
