R9 425 of R100 000 raised

Hi all,

I am Carmen Ras, the baby sister of Martin Ras. My brother works in America and comes home to visit every year in the “off seasons”. He arrived home in Bloemfontein on the night of 13 November 2017, but unfortunately, on the 18th he was in a terrible car accident.

My brother inherited my mother’s car when she passed away almost 4 months ago after a fight against cancer. On the night of the accident, we were all on our way home when he skipped a T-junction and ran into a wall. He was driving alone.

He suffered head and facial injuries, so I let them take him to a Private hospital in Bloemfontein, Mediclinic. The CT scans showed bleeding on the brain and a fracture of his left eye bone. He might have to go for surgery for his fracture, but there is still too much swelling to determine the actual damage to his eye itself and to have a clear view of the fracture. After all this, he will need intensive rehabilitation.

As I am typing this, 21 November, he is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). With him working in America 9 months of the year, it made no sense having a medical aid in SA. So costs are running high, my funds are depleted and this whole process might still take a (really long) while.

Currently, I don’t have much of a choice but to have him transferred to a public hospital when he is stable enough since I’ve depleted all my funds and the hospital wants more.

Hopefully, I can get a few donations just to cover the outstanding accounts, pay the upcoming accounts and just ensure he gets all the necessary medication, attention and care he needs to heal his brain and save his eye.
