This might seem like a silly idea, but it was the only one I could think of.
My friend is great financial trouble, and she needs help. The family is not an option. Loans are not an option. I can’t do this entirely on my own… Please help me make a small difference.
Who am I?
My name is Jade. I’m 24 years old and currently unemployed, living in South Africa. I’ve known Nora for a long time now, and she’s my best friend in the world. When I heard what had happened to her, my heart broke into pieces, because it was simply not going to be an easy fix.
Nora’s mother lives alone in Theunissen in a house she rents, where she was running a small business. She was robbed and assaulted at her business, and feeling unsafe after this, decided to move in with her daughter instead. The trouble is, Nora was single-handedly put in charge of renting a house, as her mother refuses to part with her dogs. She will also be in charge of taking care of her now-jobless mother until she gets back up on her feet. She has to pay for the move, the house deposit and utilities herself, as her mother has no money to her name.
Being estranged from her family from a young age, they’ve already refused to help. A loan from the bank is not possible, as her mother is blacklisted and already thousands in debt. Nora herself has made debt on behalf of her parents. Another financial burden she’ll have to bare. To top it all off, Nora was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2012. Since then; it’s become chronic, and requires expensive medication and frequent visits to the doctor just to leave the house.
I’m afraid Nora simply cannot afford this huge setback. Her biggest worry is losing her job altogether because she is obligated to complete her studies while she works – something she’ll no longer be able to afford.
My goal:
All I want is a way for her to bounce back after all of this. If no one else is willing to help her, I’m at least going to try my best. Please, please help me out, and spare some kindness for a stranger. Every little bit helps. My overall goal is R50 000. This is to at least cover the move, her studies, and supporting herself and her mother for a little while until the situation stabilizes.
