Tammy as we fondly call her, is a beautiful person, with a fun loving spirit. She always faces difficulties head on and we sometimes forget that she is mentally challenged.
In the past 5 years, our family has faced some difficulties with regards to Tammy’s care and needs. Whilst my sister and I have assisted with finances, our mother was retrenched in 2016 and has been unable to find a permanent job. Some of the reasons being, her age and the time needed off to care for and supervise Tammy.
Tammy herself has been through some severe medical issues, were misdiagnosed and too much medication was administered under the wrong supervision; resulting in night tantrums, hormone imbalances, depression and unreasonable behavior.
Factors which have played a role in her not being accepted into facilities applied to, since.
From our own experiences at looking for a new home for Tammy, there are unfortunately some really undesirable establishments, with no compassion, understanding and below sub-standard care delivered to their patients.
Tammy deserves a home where she can recover, with appropriate daily activities to stimulate her self-worth and combat depression.
In this pursuit, of the best care and a better quality of life for her, we have finally found a home for our beautiful sister/daughter – called RENCKEN in the Drakensburg who are equipped and have accepted Tammy to their facility. It is a private establishment with a monthly cost of R5000, which covers her living expenses. This excludes her personals. Tammy receives a government grant of R1600 per month.
My reason for setting the GoFundMeSa account is “A Plea for HELP”. Our goal is to raise R60K per year, which will allow our mother to return to the workforce in a more permanent position and rebuild her own life, creating stability for a future as well as the needs of Tamryn.
