My 15 year old brother suffers from Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. On October 26th, he went into respiratory arrest due to phlegm being lodged in his airway. He could not breathe and was basically dead. He was rushed to the hospital where he was resuscitated after 4 minutes. He was then moved to the ICU. 2 days later, we received a call saying that he went into respiratory arrest once again and he was intubated. After almost 2 weeks of being intubated and showing no signs of improvement, a tracheostomy was done and he was put on a ventilator to help him breathe.
He has been on this ventilator and in the ICU for a total of 11 weeks and he is still unable to breathe on his own. On January 5th, he developed pneumonia and his right lung collapsed, which, of course, made breathing even more difficult. We are desperate for help with medical bills as he has been in the hospital for a long time and it seems he will still be there for a while.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
