R4 150 of R120 000 raised

Jason and Rique are a couple living in Merweville – 60km from Sutherland in the Northern Cape. They have been married for 8 years and have 4 healthy little boys. Rique is 29 years old and is a stay at home mom, and Jason works as a construction manager. As a result of a company close down, he was unemployed for a while, and because of the employment and political issues within the RSA, he has only been able to secure a position on contract outside the borders of RSA. However, the nature of his job demands that he is away from home for long periods of time.

Recently Rique discovered a lump in her breast and after several tests and biopsies, aggressive breast cancer has been diagnosed. They have no medical aid and the hospital stay and all the tests have been very expensive, exhausting all their funds. Because of the nature of the cancer, the oncologist Dr Lee-Anne Jones from George has recommended that prep-op chemo is done to shrink the mass and lump before the double mastectomy is done. According to Dr Jones, 2 sets of chemo are needed –duration 24 weeks – cost R120 000. The chemo treatment started on the 18th April 2018, and payment is required per session. Further along, a gene/hormonal test will be done and depending on the result, further chemo may be needed at a cost of R400 000. This is all prior to the double mastectomy.

Government hospitals offer a standard chemo irrespective of the type of cancer, so we as family and friends need to raise the funds as quickly as possible. We have four little boys all under the age of 8 who needs their mommy!
