My name is Paseka Leburu, I live with my maternal grandparents and we survive on their monthly state pension funds (SASSA), we live in Vereeniging, Gauteng. My mother relocated to the province of Mpumalanga in search of employment in 2015 and is yet to find one, she lives with my two younger siblings and they survive on my sibling’s state child grant and my grandmother assist with R300 a month to help cover the costs. I do not know my father nor met his family.
I am a student at North-West University Vaal Triangle Campus studying Political Science, this year is supposed to be my second year. I was using National Student Fund (NSFAS} in my first year but found out on the day of registration (26 January 2018) that NSFAS has cut my funding due to academic performance, NSFAS has set 60% pass rate as a measurement of maintaining the bursary, unfortunately I only passed 50% of my modules and due to my financial background I cannot afford to be a self-paying student.
I am a member of various youth organizations, both political and civil organizations, namely; Organization of African Youth, International Youth Council-South Africa chapter, Youth@SAIIA, Gauteng Youth Parliament, ReimagineSA, SASCO and ANC YL. I joined these organizations because of their respective missions and visions for a better South Africa through their programs of action, and the impact they bring to the communities they work in. My participation in these organizations is mainly through electronic messages and platforms, they are not an obstacle, but skill development mechanisms focusing in leadership capabilities which will allow me to serve the people of this country with dignity, integrity, honesty, trustworthiness and respect any public office I may hold in the future.
In my career, I look forward to becoming a Diplomat and one day to contribute to a better, safer, equitable and sustainable world. I have been preparing myself through all of the above mentioned organization participation. However, without a university degree, this goal is not possible. I need your assistance with tuition and residence and books fees.
