WAR AGAINST PLASTIC – GOAL R 1 000 000
My goal for the campaign is to raise enough money by the end of 2019 to start a non-profit organisation that will partake in big monthly environmental clean ups in South Africa.
Plastic, especially in developing countries, remain one of the biggest problems that many refuse to believe. Everything is wrapped in plastic these days, sometimes even wrapped in plastic twice? Why? Because it is cheap and easily accessible. But do you know what happens to it when you throw it away and don’t see it anymore? Once you throw your single use plastic away, it ends up in places you would never imagine… it ends up in the environment, the ocean, rivers, in animals, fish, birds and eventually in your own digestive system!
I intend to gather volunteers from different communities for these clean up actions but therefore need donations for support there of (transport, equipment, eco-friendly disposable methods for the garbage or recycling, marketing and other logistics).
With the donations I also aim to create more awareness about the war against plastic pollution and to encourage the use and production of eco-friendly and sustainable products. By creating awareness of monthly clean ups and using various social media platforms, I can reach volunteers within the region of the intended clean ups or even within the entire country (whether it is a land/ocean based area in nature or within a community itself needed to be cleaned). Through this campaign, we can then hopefully spread a positive message and encourage communities to try and lead a more environmentally conscious life! With the donations I will also be supporting educational awareness and smaller projects that aim to create a zero waste and self-sustainable life, for e.g. Building Earth ships.
Even if you can’t donate, I ask that you please do every little bit you can in your own community to take care of your environment. Do some research on how you can rethink your own habits and routines to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic!
It’s like they say, “There is no planet B”
Thanking you in advance for your support and generosity.
