On the 23rd and 24th of May 2018, my school, Curro Century City, hosted the World Scholars’ Cup (WSC). The WSC is an event that connects scholars from different backgrounds; inspiring a passion for knowledge and giving scholars a platform to engage with the content they have learnt. Scholars are able to participate in debating, collaborative writing, and multiple choices tests. The aforementioned events are done in groups of 3, where every team member has to participate. Each scholar is taken out of their comfort zone, where we are all challenged to partake in debates as a team, write a persuasive essay and respond to multiple choice questions. The questions are drawn from the 6 subject areas given beforehand which each team had to study.
My team performed exceptionally well, and I was the 3rd top scoring scholar in the Cape Town Round. I achieved the opportunity to advance to the next round along with other top scholars. There are 3 rounds in the WSC and we are fundraising to attend the Barcelona Global Round which will be from July 22 to July 27, 2018. We would be immensely grateful for the opportunity to perform on a global platform, representing our communities.
The total cost of attending the Global Round in Barcelona is R41 000 per person, which amounts to R123 000 for our team. This includes flight tickets, accommodation and registration fees.
We are asking if you can consider making a donation towards this once in a lifetime experience.
Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
