Help Me Protect My Children’s Future After Losing R156,000 to a Scam

I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I would have to ask others for help, but today I have no choice.

Recently, I was the victim of a devastating scam that resulted in more than R156,000 being stolen from my account. This loss has left me financially overwhelmed and struggling to provide for the people who depend on me most—my children.

I have always been extremely careful when it comes to online security. Throughout my life, I have been vigilant about phishing scams and have never knowingly shared confidential banking information with anyone. That is one of the reasons this experience has been so shocking and devastating.

Since discovering the theft, I immediately cancelled my credit card, opened a case with the police, and requested a full investigation by my bank. While I remain hopeful that these efforts may help, the process is slow, stressful, and unfortunately there is no guarantee that I will recover the money that was stolen. In the meantime, my financial obligations continue, and my children still depend on me for their education, daily needs, and future opportunities.

For years, I worked hard to improve our future. One of the investments I made was a monthly subscription to educational and research tools, including Claude by Anthropic, to help support my children’s studies and career goals. I had finally managed to pay off my credit card after a long and difficult journey, and I felt hopeful about what lay ahead.

My son dreams of studying airplane mechanics and was preparing to take a bridging course next year. He  is excited about building a future for himself. My 21-yearold is currently in the 2nd year of a psychology degree, funded through a student loan that I support by paying high monthly interest from my  account. Education has always been priority because I want my children to have opportunities. It took 13 miscarriages to have them.
