Gena is a 28-year-old female, born with Multiple Sclerosis. At the age of 16, her mom passed away. Gena then stayed with an aunt, but due to financial constraints, the aunt could not take care of Gena. She was then cared for by her sister, Crystal.
Crystal is a single parent of 4 living in Manenberg Cape Town. Although Crystal tries her very best, she cannot take care of all Gena’s needs. Struggling financially, Crystal relies on a Government grant as an income. Gena’s disability grant received monthly by the Government is R1600. This amount is not enough to care for all Gena’s needs, whether it be medication or for personal hygiene products.
Crystal, her four children and Gena live in a bachelor flat in Manenberg. 4 beds, in a very small place. There is a sewerage pipe that burst underneath the flat and this has caused the concrete flooring to open and faeces and water floods through their home every time there is heavy rain as the pipes are blocked and the only opening is through the burst pipe hence, why the flat floods. Crystal has complained to the local Government on numerous occasions and had been in the newspaper twice pleading for assistance.
Due to the faeces and dirty water flowing through the home, Gena has sores all over her body. She has been to doctors for consultation and only receives antibiotics. The doctor explained to Crystal that if they do not move out of the dirt this could be fatal, as Gena has sores in her mouth as well as on her body.
Gena struggles to move around and sits all day in the house that is flooded with faeces.
Please help Gena move to a home that caters for her condition and all her needs. We have done research on homes and these homes cost +/- R12 000 per month. Any and all other donations and suggestions are welcomed.
