Every day in South Africa there is one more family added to a list of poverty and this story is no different. Unfortunately, in a third world country there is limited amount of help as a story like this easily slips away as another statistic.
This for me, posting it is tough. Meet Frank Bedo. His addicting smile, laughter, passion and kindness is what drew me and everyone who knows him closer to him.
I had the privilege of hiring him to work for me at a live event venue that I owned. It was not long before we became friends and before I called him family. My family and I have since immigrated and no longer own a business in South Africa.
I remember the first day he walked into my business and graced me with his gratitude. With the little he had, he woke up everyday and lived it as if he had it all.
He moved to South Africa at age 35 (2009) from Congo in hopes of a better future. He took a job as a “trolley boy” at Game (a franchise business that sells food, electronics, gym equipment etc) in Paarl, Western Cape. From there he worked himself up and became the go- to bouncer at live event venues in the Paarl/Wellington (Cape Town) area because of his trustworthiness and work ethic. He has since then taught himself how to speak, read and write in English and is now fluent in 3 languages.
Unfortunately, when COVID-19 hit and people started losing their jobs, Mr. Frank (this is what we call him, including my 7-year-old) was one of them. He did not tell me anything as I found out from a mutual friend. When I called him, tears fell from his eyes as he told me that he had lost the ability to provide for his family when he lost his job and got kicked out of his house for being unable to make rent payments. He is now living with a friend and his wife and 3 children are living somewhere else as there is no place where they can be together for free.
Living in South Africa means different things for different people, and like many others I would not give a problem like this a second thought, as there are so many, you feel as if your efforts would end up to not mean much.
Mr. Frank is someone who deserves every piece of good that life has to offer
which brings me to our reason for turning to the public to help us bring their family under 1 roof again and help make a difference in the life of a man who has helped so many and still continues to do so. (The photos attached are taken while in this storm and his smile is as big as it’s ever been)
Our aim is to raise R44 000.00 which will grant him rent worth 5 months to get back on his feet.
(At this moment $2900)
Please help us to make a change in Mr. Frank’s life. For further information please feel free to contact us with anything else you might need.
