My Name is Captain and apparently, I’m a hero. I’m a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. I saved my family a few years ago when the house caught fire in the early hours of the morning and they were able to put it out without any major damage. Most recently, on the 26th of February, I saved my 3-year-old human brother from a highly venomous, 1 meter long Puff Adder, one of South Africa’s most deadly snakes. I, in my effort to protect my human, took a full on bite in the throat, but I also ended killing the snake.
Fortunately, my dad heard my barks and was there almost immediately, he knows snakes and knew the Cytotoxic venom would work quickly. He got me to Vet House Clinic in Pietermaritzburg. They were waiting and gave me my anti-venom, and took such amazing care of me, my dad and mom and 2 human brothers are highly indebted to them for such a wonderful job they did, and they updated my dad almost every two hours, and got me through the night. To my parent’s amazement, my bill never went near as high as we were expecting, thank you Vet house.
My Mom and Dad are trying to raise R4300 to help cover my vet bill and buy a gift for the wonderful people at Vet House Hospital for saving my life. I was highly rewarded for my efforts with a huge piece of Biltong “once my swelling went down of course”.
I love my family, but I am especially protective over my little human brothers (Ryan 3 and Owen 6 Months), and won’t let anything happen to them. Nothing comes near them without my Approval.
