My father is 75 years old, on the 12th of March 2018, he fell off a ladder and broke his ankle. He has never been in a hospital in his entire life. Since then he has undergone 12 surgeries and has now had his leg amputated above the knee. Due to the fact that he doesn’t have medical aid, this was all done at a government hospital. He now lives with me and my husband, and our 2 children. His wound has finally healed, so no more surgeries.
These past 4 months has taken a massive toll on him, and I would do anything to see him walk again. He has always been the strongest man I have ever known, and even though he is 75 years old, he never lost his zest for life. He was always independent and he keeps telling me “ I’m not a cripple”. Even though he only has one 1 leg. The first week after he was released into my care my car broke down, when my husband came to help me he asked my dad to keep an eye on the kids, it took longer than intended and when I got home he made a pot of food for my children standing with 1 leg at the stove.
The following week he had his car fitted with controllers, and is trying to drive and ready to take on the road again. It is things like this that make me realize he hasn’t let the loss of a limb affect him, and I want to let him live his last few years on earth as independent as he knows how to be.
Please, can you help me help my father walk again by getting him a prosthetic leg?
