Good day, ladies and gentlemen

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to address you today. My name is Noki Mokoena, and I stand before you not just as an individual, but as a voice for many women who share a path in life we never anticipated. I am a widow, and while this identity is born from loss, it has taught me resilience, courage, and the profound power of community.

Becoming a widow brings with it a unique set of challenges—financial strain, emotional hardship, and the daunting task of navigating life anew. It often feels as though the world moves on while we’re left trying to pick up the pieces. For many of us, these challenges are magnified by the responsibility of being sole providers for our children, managing households, and striving to create a future amidst the pain of the past.

But we cannot do this alone. We need support—not pity, but empowerment. Support that helps us rebuild our lives, pursue opportunities, and provide stability for our families. That’s why I am here today, reaching out to kind hearts like yours.
