We are a family-owned & operated stationery shop, focusing on office supplies, scholastic supplies, art supplies & many more.
My mom, my sister and I have an immense passion for people and our industry. For us it is not about a person being a number, but truly giving them that personal touch. We know that customers walk in with the expectation of just buying a product, but we always talk to our clients and create a safe environment for them to talk, laugh or just tell us a snippet about their day. In our current shop we’ve experienced multiple tears – tears of joy and tears of sadness (the tears of joy far outweighs the tears of sadness though).
It’s been a rough journey. In 2014, we had to liquidate our previous shop as there were no funds to pay the bills. We were dumbfounded as to how there was no money? We then found out, which shook us to our core, that our staff who were like family to us, helped themselves with stock and finances.
After working our fingers to the bone, early mornings and late nights, it was all felt utterly meaningless after the shop had to be closed down. As we were applying building blocks to have our company grow, others were removing those blocks behind the scenes.
In late 2014, we had to build ourselves from the bottom upwards, trying to survive after the trauma and heartache of the liquidation. It has been 8 years of monstrous curveballs, learning curves and growth. We are now at a point where we want to grow and expand into a new & larger store – all of this to the benefit of our customers.
In a world where everyone is so consumed by their daily worries, we strive to create a safe-space and positive environment – very random for a stationery store I know!
Most importantly, I want to do this for my mother. Everyone says that their mom is the best, but I honestly believe it’s just because they did not have the utmost honour to have my mom be their mother.
I want all of the pain and trauma of the liquidation to be a thing of the past with our new upcoming store (it’s been 8 years, I know, but some factors always stay with a person).
We are wanting to create an ultimate, well-rounded shopping experience where people can walk in as customers, but leave as family.
Your help would form the crucial building blocks helping to achieve our very achievable goal. There are however many overheads which feels like it’s currently swallowing us in whole. I want to enjoy the journey and I want my mom to enjoy every moment of it as well, I do however want her to enjoy it without having that constant fear of basic finances. There are funds available as we do currently have a store, however judging by the expected expenses it won’t take us very far.
A basic breakdown of overheads (as there is always those unforeseen expenditures closer to the time)
All once off costs:
Shelving: R270 000 (£13 565)
Lighting: R70 000 (£3 543)
Counter space & furnishings: R50 000 (£2 530)
You might think that these are absurd amounts, but we live by the philosophy of doing it right from the beginning, otherwise it will cost you much more in the end.
I love my family and it is an honour to be surrounded by them on a daily basis, working towards our future together.
Help us to not only survive, but to thrive in our new store.
