URGENT MEDICAL FUND – GOAL R 108 000

R0 of R108 000 raised

I am a 38 year old mother of 2, I am single, I live a healthy lifestyle that has not required medical care since I had my children.

When I was 21, I had breast augmentation – more for mental health than vanity; it was a big deal having no breasts and I have never regretted the decision to have the augmentation done. Until now.

I breastfed both my children and did not experience any issues at all.

However, over the past 3 years I have begun to notice a difference in my breasts; ‘caves’ on the right & hardening on the left. Life was a little too complex to concern myself too much with boobs, so I left it until the beginning of this year when I finally had a breast examination to discover that I have sustained an intra-cellular contraction; this basically means that my left breast has ruptured. It is at a Stage 3, with Stage 4 being the highest & next risk where the breast begins to become toxic to my body. Right breast is at Stage 2.

Here is an excerpt from my doctors’ Motivation letter to my Medical Aid Insurer:

“The above patient presents with a complaint of painful and progressively advancing deformity of the breasts, the left being worse than the right side. She had undergone a breast augmentation 21 years ago and has had no issues until recently.

On examination she has asymmetrical breasts with tenderness and hardness palpable around both prostheses but much worse on the left which has an obvious deformity. The breast is pulled upwards and laterally. She has had an ultrasound which has documented a left sided intracapsular leak with capsular contracture and a somewhat less deformed and contracted right breast with an intact prosthesis.

A diagnosis of a Baker’s grade 2 capsular contracture on the right and a more severe grade 3 capsular contracture on the left has been made taking the clinical and radiological findings into account.

It is thus planned to carry out bilateral explant capsulectomies as the patient clearly has worsening symptoms secondary to capsular contractures. ”

Despite being a loyal, otherwise healthy member who has never claimed, I pay the monthly premium without fail for 12 years, I have still been turned down 4 times by my insurer.

I need to raise the funds to have the implants removed. The risk of complications, in the way of Toxic Shock Syndrome, has become a reality and the fear that I live with daily is causing an immense amount of stress and anxiety which my children are affected by.

Your contribution, small, is so greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance.
