I am Achuma Kotishini, a 17-year-old girl residing in East London in the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Coming from a below average family often discourages people from trying to achieve better and often leads to them leading below-average lives. I, however, have used this as motivation to work harder, achieve more and do better than I would be expected.
In recognition of my academic achievements, I have been selected to attend an Academic Achievers’ Tour to the United Kingdom and Ireland in September 2019. This tour includes lectures at prestigious European educational institutions such as Trinity College, Cambridge University and University College in London; thus giving me the opportunity for greater education and learning. This tour would teach me independence, understanding, and appreciation for people from all walks of life (the scholars I would be traveling with as well as the people I would meet abroad). It would expose me to different cultures and languages. I would, on a very small scale for a short amount of time, become a citizen of the world and thus be able to use any new knowledge, innovative ideas and skills learned to positively influence my school system and peers. This tour is extremely important to me but would be impossible without assistance from external sponsors.
Being able to attend this tour would truly be a dream come true and in order to make this dream a reality, I would need reliable sponsors to help me to raise the necessary funds.
