When most people think of Hillbrow the first thing that comes to mind is crime, or perhaps that it is an inner city concrete slum that is no place for children to grow up.
But there are people that are doing phenomenal work in this area and one of them is Brave man Moyo. He has partnered with Non-profit organisation Dlala Nje and together they are providing skateboarding lessons for these children who have limited access to recreational facilities, and they now have the opportunity to learn an exciting action sport, and it’s free of charge.
Dlala Nje is challenging perceptions about the inner city and create opportunities for youth who live in the area. The organisation is multidisciplinary; they provide guided tours in and around the city to international and local tourists.
The skateboarding project is only two months old and already has over 50 students, but they only have 10 skateboards, a limited amount of helmets and no protective pads for the children. The children practice on one of the lower parking levels of the Ponte towers.
The aim of this fundraiser is to try and get at least another 20 skateboards, as well as more helmets and protective padding for the children.
