My daughter Liana Kleynhans aged 10 has been having issues at school . The school referred us to an educational phycologist who advised our child tested. We have taken her to a pediatrician who advised her to be sent for an ear test as her eyes has already been tested. The audiologist did a pediatric test of which it indicated our child does have a hearing disability. She will now be taken for a diagnostic test where they will confirm where exactly the problem is. This means our daughter will need hearing aids for both ears soonest as this is affecting her schoolwork.
Estimate pricing the audiologist gave will be R40 000 of which this does not include all testing that is done. We no longer have a medical aid as we cannot afford having one. Therefore, all costs need to be paid by us. We have also tried doing it through the state hospital of which there is a waiting period, and the first available opening is only in Apr 2023. That said they cannot guarantee the will have stock of hearing aids by then.
In the meantime, my daughter needs to struggle with this disability.
