I just finished coaching a season of U12s in baseball; yes here in SA it’s not popular. I was introduced to it four years ago and instantly fell in love with the sport, the friendships and the family feel of the teams. I coach out of Randburg Mets baseball club, it’s small like all the baseball clubs here in Gauteng but I love it, it’s my second home. The only reason I was able to coach was that the uniform was supplied to me as well as the coaching course I went on a pass, I have my level 1 coaching qualifications, this doesn’t help me play and I cannot play in my coaches kit. This season I want to join the minors team (a more social team) the only issue is I have no equipment or uniform that I need. I’m 19 years old and currently studying part-time and looking for work, so I cannot afford to pay the subs or to pay for the uniform I need or the equipment I need. The subs alone are R900 and then I need to buy a uniform, baseball pants, cleats, a bat, a helmet, batting gloves, an equipment bag, and a glove. This is all really expensive even from the cheapest seller. Please help me for I have never been an athletic person and I have fallen in love with a sport finally and really want to play a great season.
