This initiative is called Kasi2Kasi because the aim is to reach all South African townships and create a network that will assist in breaking our socio-economic challenges right at the heart of South Africa Emakasi(townships). The 4km walk ekasi, with all professionals in their graduation gowns, aims to paint the township with education and inspire the people so that they know that it’s possible to attain their professional dream. If you have seen someone living it, it becomes easy to believe you can also do it.
This project is not only aiming to inspire township societies just through a walk, but to impact heavily as post the walk there will be direct engagements with professionals Chartered Accountants, Engineers, mathematicians, Medical doctors,etc this type of engagement will not only be about knowledge transfer, but also to mentor learners interested in a particular field, share links about current job opportunities, educate them about what is required to obtain a particular profession, also direct engagements with successful entrepreneurs.
This Kasi2kasi project is not only going to be a once off event, the benefits won’t end on the day, but we will create a website that will look to empower the people from Kasi to access critical information anytime, about different career paths, education programmes, current job opportunities, entrepreneurship seminars, connect with mentors, etc. This will be an on-going network HUB for all professionals and the people across all townships.
If we aim to change the current socio-economic imbalance of our country, we will have to embark on a lifetime sustainable project that speaks to the people’s day to day challenges and KASI2KASI aims to address not only liberate our people but to empower them into their rightful position, as we make education fashionable and also making sure entrepreneurship is our ticket out of poverty.
