I am a Master’s student in my second year. Last year I have applied for bursaries for 2019 however the bursary that I have received only covered half of my tuition fees. The funding was supposed to cover the whole year for tuition, accommodation, food, transport as well as equipment to conduct my research. I was never told this by my University, I only found out when I went to enquirer about this. That was in May. When I asked for help, they told me there is nothing they can do and their advice was for me to discontinue my studies in the middle of the year. What they did not understand or refused to understand is that my mother does not work, I do not work, my brother does not earn enough to help and I have not paid rent since February, this led me to be in debt. My landlords were kind enough to let me stay until my funding situation gets better but now I think they are starting to lose patience and I do not want to face legal action because I cannot afford it. I tried getting a job but every application got turned down. I tried to apply for a student loan but it was rejected. It is really a miracle that I made it this far with little food, most nights I go to bed hungry or skip meals so that the food lasts longer. This situation really did set my work back. I do not want to quit my studies; I worked so hard to be where I am today. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Not only appreciated but will help me continue with my Degree and graduate. This will mean a lot to me since I was the first one in my family to graduate and to have a postgraduate qualification and I have been through a lot before I got those qualifications.
