I am a first year student at the University of KwaZulu Natal and doing Bachelor of Social Science. My mom has been unemployed for the past two, I have a little brother who is 9 years old and doing grade 4. I had applied for NSFAS and was told that I’m only funded to receive an allowance that will cover my rent and buy groceries plus send some money to my mother who is at Richards Bay with my brother.

I struggle to pay my brother’s school fees, transport money, as well as lunch money as the only source of income, is my brother’s grant. I am worried that I won’t be able to go back to school next year due to not being able to pay study fees and registration.
