Charmaine had a tumor removed from her cheek which was found to be a Squamous cell carcinoma which is a very aggressive type of cancer. She is having another surgery on the 28th in Johannesburg where they will remove the rest of the tumor, shave the jawbone, remove a tooth and lymph nodes. She will have to spend five to ten days in hospital in Johannesburg, followed by six weeks of radiation and possibly chemo.
She is lucky in that she has been referred to the excellent Professor Chris Joseph but the surgeon fee for the procedure alone is ZAR103,000 of which he says she might get 20% paid by medical aid. The Hospital will be covered but cancer treatment is capped by her medical insurance company.
Wanting to give her the best chance of recovery and remove their financial stress I would like to get donations to cover the shortfalls and help alleviate some of the costs of being unemployed while she heals. I know that everyone is hurting due to Covid, but any little bit, including prayer, helps. This is an international request, and I believe that donations can be made in any currency.
