I was a 5-year-old boy when I started watching how my dad coached the Oakdale School boys preparing year after year for the World games. It fascinated me and as from 5 years of age, I also started pulling on the rope in front of the big boys learning how it worked.
My mother made me a school shirt of Oakdale and I got my own size 4 boots to pull with and every year my father gave me the chance to practice with them and even join in competitions. When I was 12 years old, I started practicing with the Buffeljags Bearfoot team and even went to school there for 2 weeks to practice for the SA competition that year in George.
I had to lose a lot of weight and my mother traveled with me from Riversdale to Swellendam just to practice twice a week.
I was privileged to join in teams with these friends I made in primary school when we all went to Oakdale School in grade 8. For 4 years we pulled together in a team and this year we won the SA championships to go to the Netherlands to compete in the World Championships in Holten.
This is a big dream come true for me and I wanted to be in this team ever since I started to pull. Now I can live my dream. Unfortunately, we do not get any funding for this expensive trip and therefore I will be so grateful if you could even just support me with a small donation to help me make my dream come true.
I am also full of hope that our team can win this World Championships this year. We could not compete the last two years due to Covid-19. This will be the first time in 3 years our school will be competing again.
